How many times have we thrown out those empty plastic containers that we've ALREADY PAID FOR and then go out and buy pretty plastic food storage containers at our favorite home or big box store? Those plastic containers we throw away just increase and exponentially grow the landfills. They don't breakdown and nurture the soil, they just pile up and cause big hazardous mess!
I started reusing our Brown Sugar Containers (seen in the center) for my pantry storage containers! Flour, Pasta, Oatmeal, Cream of Wheat, Rice...It All Fits Perfectly! And I use my Label Maker (PLEASE GET ONE!) to label each container. Then when we go food shopping next week, what ever is low or finished, I just refill in that labeled container!
I hand wash the empty sugar containers and air dry them before I reuse them. The Reuses and Re-purposing will really go as far as your creativity will take them. Small toys, office supplies, you name it! As we keep buying brown sugar, I'll have to get creative too! :-)
So before you toss that next empty plastic container, DON'T! :-) Consider the decrease in your family's waste production, the savings on your household budget and how pretty, neat and organized your pantry or cabinet shelves will be! Now that's Smart Home Economics! Great HOME-SCHOOL/ LIFE-SKILLS Lesson for the children too!
